Washington DC, November 16, 2005
“The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the USINI sponsored this Conference in Washington, DC, USA. The intent of the Conference was to contribute to the debate on the interactions between national security and economic development. Specifically it focused on the linkages between poverty, economic and social development, and national security in India.
The speakers were experts in the field of the economics of poverty, economic and social development, and national security. The Conference was divided into three sessions and a special presentation. The first session focused on national security issues facing India; the second session on economic and social development in India; and the third session discussed on the interaction between the two. The special session focused on the relationship between India and the current Bush Administration. The audience for this conference were the policymaking community in the United States, Us Administration and congressional staff, members of the top think-tanks of the Washington area, representatives of the Indian community in the US, and the press.
The Conference proceedings will be made available in this site shortly. The papers presented are now available here. Our goal is that this conference, and the dissemination of its papers and proceedings, will highlight the critical issues that interrelate national security and economic and social development and become part of the debate in the policymaking community.”
