The US-India Institute has been established to promote a lasting
alliance between the world's two largest democracies, an alliance
rooted in stronger economic and national security ties between
the two countries and reflecting their common commitment to
preserving democratic freedoms.
Our mission is to educate policymakers, business leaders,
the media and the public on the importance of a strategic
relationship between the US and India. The Institute will
raise the profile of this relationship by spotlighting critical
geo-strategic issues of national security, defense and economic
relations of mutual interest to both nations, emphasizing
the contribution a closer alliance can make to peace through
strength and economic freedom.
The Institute is non-partisan. It will look for the common
ground that will strengthen bilateral ties. Where there are
differing points of view, the Institute will work to enhance
the understanding of one side by another. Where there is a
risk of false assumptions and perceptions, it will foster
a constructive dialogue.
The Institute will organize conferences, seminars, roundtables,
policy luncheons and dinners in both countries to encourage
productive dialogue and analysis on issues of common interest.
Further, it will conduct and publish objective studies to
examine salient issues and evaluate the costs and benefits
of alternative policies. The participants in these programs
will be experts and officials prominent in the fields of national
security, defense and economic matters in the US and India.
Partnerships with other institutions and think-tanks in the
US and India have been and will continue to be established
to share information and analyses and develop joint work programs.
