Conference on Economic Development and National Security in India
Washington, DC, November 16, 2005

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the USINI are sponsoring this Conference in Washington, DC, USA. The intent of the Conference is to contribute to the debate on the interactions between national security and economic development. Specifically it will focus on the linkages between poverty, economic and social development, and national security in India.

The speakers are experts in the field of the economics of poverty, economic and social development, and national security. The Conference will be divided into three sessions. The first session will focus on national security issues facing India; the second session will focus on economic and social development in India; and the third session will focus on the interaction between the two. The audience for this conference is expected to be the policymaking community in the United States, congressional members and staff, and the press.

The Conference will be recorded and we expect that its proceedings, along with the papers presented will be published as a book. Our goal is that this conference, and the dissemination of the book, will highlight the critical issues that interrelate national security and economic and social development and become part of the debate in the policymaking community. Conference agenda will shortly be available.
