Armeane Choksi
 

Dr. Armeane Choksi is President of the U.S.-India Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank established to promote a lasting partnership between the world’s two largest democracies, particularly in the areas of security, defense and economic relations.  

Dr. Choksi is also a Managing Partner and  Chairman of Hudson Fairfax Group, an investment firm exclusively focused on India. Prior to joining HFG in 2004, Dr. Choksi had been integrally involved in international finance in both the private and the public sectors for over 30 years. Dr. Choksi advised governments in Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East on issues of foreign trade and investments, privatization, deregulation, financial reform, energy policy, economic stabilization policies, social security reform and health and education policies.

Dr. Choksi spent 22 years with the World Bank (1974-1996), rising to the senior executive position of Vice President. During his tenure there, Dr. Choksi negotiated investment projects and economic policy changes with governments of several emerging markets. He was also responsible for and has managed and supervised investment projects in the infrastructure sector (power, transportation, natural gas, and water supply) and in the health, education, agriculture, and environment sectors in Latin America. The portfolio of projects that he has managed in Latin America exceeded $8 billion. He was integrally involved with the highest levels of government in the macroeconomic stabilization, privatization and the trade and financial reform programs for Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela.

After the World Bank and prior to joining HFG (1996-2004), Mr. Choksi was President and a founding partner of Rubicon Capital Investments LLC, a company providing strategic and financial advisory services to multinational corporations.

Dr. Choksi has written extensively on foreign trade and economic liberalization and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He also serves on several governing boards. Dr. Choksi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, a Masters of Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and a Masters and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota.
